Ferrari Signs Phil Hanson as Official Factory Driver
Ferrari has formally appointed Phil Hanson as an official factory driver, solidifying a multi-year contract with the 27-year-old following his triumph at the 2025 Le Mans. Hanson competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) for the privateer AF Corse team, where he not only clinched the 24 Hours of Le Mans but also finished as runner-up in the drivers’ world championship.
Hanson’s career trajectory includes a decade-long ascent through the prototype ranks, highlighted by LMP2 championships in the FIA WEC and both the Asian and European Le Mans Series. He had previously claimed victory in the LMP2 category at the 2020 Le Mans before transitioning to the top tier in 2024, where he piloted customer Porsche 963s.
In 2026, Hanson will return to the #83 AF Corse Ferrari 499P, joining fellow factory driver Ye Yifei, with the team’s third member yet to be announced.
“I am immensely proud to join Ferrari as an official factory driver and to continue my journey in the FIA WEC,” said Hanson. He expressed deep admiration for the Ferrari brand, emphasizing the team’s commitment to excellence. “I am honored to carry on the success of last season and to be part of the Prancing Horse family.”
Antonello Coletta, Global Head of Ferrari Endurance and Corse Clienti, affirmed Hanson’s credentials, noting the consistency and performance he demonstrated throughout the previous season. “Phil has earned Ferrari’s full confidence. We are delighted to welcome him into our family, and we believe our journey ahead will be successful,” he stated.
The 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship kicks off with the Qatar 1812KM from March 26-28, 2026.
