Historic Racing Notebook: Multi-Generational Racing Series Launched

The Motor Racing Legends has introduced the Generations Trophy, a new series aimed at promoting multi-generational family teams to compete in a one-make series featuring pre-1966 MGBs. Each team must include two drivers from different generations, such as a parent and child, grandparent and grandchild, or uncle and niece/nephew. Notably, siblings and couples are excluded.

The MGB, chosen for its durability and low maintenance costs, has a rich motorsport heritage, including a class win at the 1963 24 Hours of Le Mans and a 5th-place finish at the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally.

Each race in the series will last for 60 minutes, preceded by 30-minute practice and qualifying sessions. Mandatory driver changes must occur between the 25th and 35th minutes of the race, with pit stop lengths determined by the combined age of the drivers:

  • Over 100 years: 2 minutes
  • 100-80 years: 2 minutes 15 seconds
  • 79-60 years: 2 minutes 30 seconds
  • Under 60 years: 2 minutes 45 seconds
  • Crews including an elite driver: 4 minutes

Awards will be presented to the top three overall finishers and to class winners: Next Gen (one generation apart), Dynasty (two generations apart), Mixed Gen (mixed-gender crews), and Elite (with professional drivers).

The first event will take place on October 18-19, during the Silverstone GP meeting.

Cancellation of Masters Historic Events in UAE

In related news, the Masters Historic Weekend at Dubai Autodrome and the Gulf Historic Grand Prix Revival at Yas Marina Circuit, both scheduled for late October and early November 2025, have been cancelled due to unforeseen logistical complications. Event organizers cited concerns over the timely delivery of cars and equipment to the UAE, stating that cancellation was necessary to maintain the high standards expected at their events.
