HWA to Enter 2026 Nurburgring 24 Hours with Revamped Mercedes 190E

With the recent conclusion of the 2025 Nurburgring 24 Hours, attention now shifts to the 2026 edition, marking a significant moment in motorsport history. HWA, a prominent name in GT racing and DTM, has announced its entry into the SP-X class with a modern interpretation of the classic Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II.

This initiative aligns with HWA’s 25th anniversary celebrations and represents a major engineering feat. The "HWA Evo" is undergoing a comprehensive redesign that retains the aesthetic of the iconic 1992 model while boasting significant technical upgrades.

Key Specifications and Developments

The HWA Evo is crafted around a standard Mercedes-Benz 190 chassis, but it diverges extensively beneath the surface. Key modifications include:

  • Suspension: It features bespoke double wishbone suspension mounted on front and rear aluminium subframes.
  • Powertrain: The vehicle will be powered by an HWA-developed twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine, positioned strategically for optimal weight distribution. This replaces the original 2.5-liter four-cylinder Cosworth engine.
  • Production Plans: HWA plans to manufacture 100 road-legal versions of the Evo, with deliveries anticipated to start in late 2025.

Development Oversight

Notably, motorsport veterans Roland Asch and Klaus Ludwig, who were instrumental in the success of the original 190E in DTM, are involved in the development process of the new vehicle.

As the motorsports community anticipates the upcoming 2026 Nurburgring 24 Hours, HWA’s entry signifies both a tribute to its heritage and a bold step into the future of racing technology.
