Intersport Racing Returns to IMSA with LMP2 Entry for 2026
Intersport Racing has officially announced its return to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, re-entering the LMP2 class for the 2026 season. After a 15-year hiatus from the American Le Mans Series, the team will field the #37 ORECA 07-Gibson, in collaboration with HMD Motorsports, a strong presence in the Indy NXT series. The team will be based at HMD’s new facility in Brownsburg, Indiana.
Team founder Jon Field, who recently made his first IMSA appearance in over a decade at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, expressed enthusiasm for the team’s revival. “I am very excited to be back in IMSA and to see the Intersport Racing name return to the paddock,” Field stated. He emphasized the strategic partnership with HMD, highlighting their professionalism and commitment to success.
Intersport has a storied history, dating back to its previous era from 1998 to 2011, with notable achievements including the 2002 ALMS LM675 Drivers’ Championship and a successful run of wins at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring and Motul Petit Le Mans.
The team’s LMP2 car will undergo initial shakedown testing at Putnam Park on September 16-17, followed by participation in the Historic Sportscar Racing event at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta from September 25-28. Further announcements regarding the driver lineup and additional program details are expected as Intersport gears up for its 2026 season debut at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Intersport Racing’s re-entry marks a significant development in American sports car racing, anticipating a competitive comeback bolstered by the experience and dedication of its partners.
