Jakobsen Settles into Peugeot Role Amid Tough Start to WEC Season
Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium—At just 21 years old, Danish driver Malthe Jakobsen is making his mark as a full-time racer for Peugeot TotalEnergies in the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). Having transitioned from a junior and reserve driver role, Jakobsen now shares the cockpit of the #94 car with seasoned drivers Loic Duval and Stoffel Vandoorne.
“I’ve been part of the team for two years, so it feels like one big family to me,” Jakobsen remarked. His integration into the team has been seamless, aided by extensive training as a junior driver. “I was able to learn a lot… watching the others over the shoulder,” he added, highlighting his previous involvement in LMP3 and LMP2 competitions.
Despite his comfort within the team, Jakobsen faces challenges as the season progresses. Currently, the #94 car sits 13th in the standings, having secured two disappointing 12th-place finishes with zero points. "I’m still mainly listening to my teammates, though," he acknowledged, noting the experience gap between himself and Duval.
Peugeot’s technical director Olivier Jansonnie provided positive feedback from a recent test at Spa, where the team experimented with tire strategies and adapts to changes in the circuit layout due to recent resurfacing. “It was a positive test for us, the drivers were happy with the car," Jansonnie stated. The switch to softer tires in practice may help improve lap times as the season progresses.
With a solid performance in upcoming races, Jakobsen and Peugeot aim to turn around their fortunes in this season of high-stakes endurance racing.
