LEON Racing Retains Champions for 2026 SUPER GT Season

K2 R&D LEON Racing has confirmed the return of reigning SUPER GT GT300 Champions, Naoya Gamou and Togo Suganami, as they aim to defend their title for the 2026 season. Both drivers will continue in the black #65 LEON Pyramid Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO, under the guidance of Team Director Haruki Kurosawa, a vital figure in the team’s rise to success since 2018.

The 2026 season marks Gamou’s 12th year with LEON Racing. As a two-time GT300 Champion, he seeks to clinch a historic third title, potentially tying the record for the most championships in the category. Suganami, who rejoined the team last season after a stint since his debut in 2019, aims to build on their successful partnership.

Last season, the duo secured the championship by a slender margin, achieving crucial victories including the season opener at Okayama and consistently performing at the Fuji Sprint Races in August. Their triumph in the Drivers’ standings came down to just one point, while the Teams’ title was decided by a tiebreaker—highlighting the competitiveness of the series.

In a notable development for 2026, LEON Racing will continue its partnership with Bridgestone tyres as they enter the final year of open tyre competition in GT300. Gamou and Suganami’s car will also feature special decals celebrating the 25th anniversary of LEON, the team’s title sponsor.

Historically, no team and driver combination has succeeded in winning back-to-back GT300 titles in the 32-year history of SUPER GT. Only driver Tetsuya Yamano has managed consecutive championships, driving for three different teams.

The upcoming season presents significant challenges as LEON Racing seeks to establish a new dynasty in the fiercely competitive GT300 class.
