Leung Teams with Yelloly for Donington Park Finale
2023 British GT champion Darren Leung is set to compete in the final round of the British GT Championship at Donington Park, partnering with IMSA GTP driver Nick Yelloly for Blackthorn AMR. Leung’s return comes after a successful stint earlier this season, where he claimed victory at the prestigious Silverstone 500 alongside co-champion Dan Harper.
This weekend’s race marks Leung’s second appearance of the season in the UK-based championship. He will drive Blackthorn’s second Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo, alongside Yelloly, who recently celebrated a win at Le Mans in the LMP2 category with Inter Europol Competition.
Leung will carry over a 20-second pit stop penalty from his Silverstone success as he prepares for the 120-minute race, which is the eighth and final round of the 2025 season. “Donington feels like a good fit,” Leung stated. “We’re there to enjoy ourselves. I’ve learned a lot this year from swapping between the BMW and McLaren, and this weekend is another opportunity to increase my experience with another manufacturer.”
While this guest entry will not earn points, Leung and Yelloly aim to contend for the race win. Meanwhile, Blackthorn’s full-season pairing of Giacomo Petrobelli and four-time champion Jonny Adam will be in the hunt for the championship title.
Yelloly, currently an Aston Martin Formula 1 Sim Development Driver, has an impressive endurance racing record that includes wins at notable events like Spa and the Nurburgring. The race at Donington Park presents a significant opportunity for both drivers to showcase their skills in a competitive environment.
As the British GT season concludes, the focus will be on Leung’s performance and Blackthorn AMR’s prospects for the championship.
