Ligier Unveils New JS2 RS for Endurance Racing
Ligier Automotive has launched the JS2 RS, a new addition to its endurance racing lineup, seven years after the introduction of the JS2 R. Designed for high performance on the track and compliance with 2025 LMP3 static tests, the JS2 RS features a carbon monocoque chassis and an upgraded safety framework, including a homologated roll cage and Zylon side protection panels.
The vehicle is powered by a 3.5-litre Ford V6 Ecoboost engine, producing up to 650 horsepower, complemented by a SADEV SL 90-20 EVO gearbox. Enhancements include a BREMBO steel braking system optimized for endurance events and a suite of electronic aids including MoTeC ECU, Bosch ABS, and traction control.
Aerodynamically, the JS2 RS showcases a carbon splitter, underfloor, and rear diffuser, which not only enhance visual appeal but also performance. Despite these upgrades, the focus remains on maintaining economical operating costs and extended service intervals akin to its predecessor.
Pricing for the JS2 RS starts at €255,000, excluding taxes. Ligier President Jacques Nicolet stated, “With the Ligier JS2 RS, we wanted to take performance further while keeping what made the JS2 R successful—an affordable, reliable, and fun car to drive for all enthusiasts, especially gentleman drivers.” He articulated the brand’s vision of combining modern GT technology, safety, and performance within the racing spirit that has characterized Ligier for over five decades.
Ligier’s legacy continues as the JS2 RS builds on the platform of the original JS2, launched over 50 years ago, and the successful JS2 R introduced in 2018.
Upgrades for the JS2 R
Concurrently, Ligier announced significant upgrades for the existing JS2 R model. These include a new braking system featuring enhanced racing callipers, reinforced pivots, and improved gearbox lubrication. The updated configuration will be mandatory for the Ligier JS Cup France and Ligier European Series starting in the 2026 season.
The previous 3.7L Ford V6 engine is being phased out in favor of the 3.5L variant, which will be mandatory beginning in 2028, with optional adoption in the 2026 and 2027 seasons. For endurance races, an “endurance” version of the Sadev gearbox is available but not mandatory. Any coexistence of different engine and gearbox combinations will be managed through a Balance of Performance (BoP) mechanism.
All new JS2 R models from 2025 will come equipped with these upgrades, including the new braking and suspension package optimized for enhanced durability and performance.
