2025 Nürburgring 24 Hours: Race Summary and Championship Implications
The 2025 Nürburgring 24 Hours concluded with a dramatic finish, propelling the #98 ROWE Racing BMW M4 GT3 Evo to victory, marking BMW’s 21st overall win at the iconic endurance race and its fourth consecutive win in the Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC). This victory also represents the first IGTC triumph for the M4 GT3 in its Evo configuration, further solidifying BMW’s competitive position in the series.
Porsche secured second and third place in the race, with the #54 Dinamic Motorsport 911 GT3 R demonstrating strong progression throughout the event. Despite not achieving overall victory, this performance earned valuable IGTC manufacturers’ points for Porsche.
Mercedes-AMG faced significant challenges, with both the #14 and #17 cars encountering technical issues, resulting in early retirements. The #14 retired due to a drivetrain failure, while the #17 suffered suspension damage yet managed to complete enough laps to earn sixth-place manufacturers’ points. Notably, the #11 Pro-Am entry from SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm delivered a commendable 13th overall finish after a mid-race recovery from mechanical setbacks.
In the driver standings, Kelvin van der Linde and Augusto Farfus lead with 50 points. Raffaele Marciello follows with 43 points. Significant movement in the manufacturers’ standings sees BMW leading with 68 points, followed by Mercedes and Porsche at 45 points each, with Ferrari trailing at 28 points.
Following the race, strict penalties were imposed, resulting in eight drivers facing license withdrawals due to serious infractions. Notably, Nathanel Berthon, Bjorn Griesemann, and Jan Jaap van Roon lost their licenses after accruing maximum penalty points. Additional infractions included several drivers exceeding speed limits in Code 60 zones, leading to further sanctions.
As the season progresses, this round has shifted the IGTC landscape, setting the stage for intense competition in upcoming events.
