Beijing Showdown: Yuan and Ye Clinch Back-to-Back GT World Challenge Asia Titles
Bob Yuan and Leo Ye made history by becoming the first drivers to win back-to-back GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS championships. Their remarkable achievement came during an intense second race at Beijing’s Street Circuit, where they tied on points with their Origine team-mate Lu Wei but secured the title due to more race victories.
Both the #87 and #4 Porsches finished the race on 125 points, with Yuan and Ye’s three wins outpacing Lu’s two. The final race concluded under Safety Car conditions, with Yuan and Ye finishing fourth and seventh, respectively. Zhang Yaqi and Ye Yifei from Winhere Harmony Racing celebrated their first series win, leading a strong finish for Ferrari.
Zhang secured the lead after Anthony Liu, another contender, faced delays during pit stops. Liu and team-mate Dorian Boccolacci initially led the race but fell out of contention due to a pit box mishap and a subsequent crash that ended Boccolacci’s run. JMR’s Ben Green and Prince Jefri Ibrahim finished second, just missing a chance to challenge for the title, with Lu taking third in the final standings, trailing three points behind the title-winning duo.
Completing the podium were Bao Jinlong and Joel Eriksson, who advanced from 12th on the grid, followed by Lu and Bastian Buus. Silver-Am winners Huang Ruohan and Akash Nandy from Absolute Corse rounded out the top six, while Craft-Bamboo’s Alex Jiatong and Darryl O’Young claimed a second Silver class victory for the day, although Cheng Congfu and Yu Kuai from FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom wrapped up the class title.
The event drew a record 30,000 spectators, emphasizing the growing interest in GT World Challenge Asia. The season finale also saw a significant incident when Jayden Ojeda nudged the rear of Green’s Corvette, which caused a chain reaction leading to a Safety Car strategy that played a crucial role in the final standings.
The next season begins in April 2026 at Sepang, Malaysia, setting the stage for another thrilling year in motorsport.
