Porsche Penske Motorsport Bolsters Line-Up Ahead of 24 Hours of Le Mans
Le Mans, France – As the 2025 motorsport season intensifies, Porsche Penske Motorsport has announced a strategic enhancement to its driver roster. Reigning Formula E World Champion Pascal Wehrlein will join the team as they seek to reclaim their dominance at the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans, aiming for their 20th victory.
Wehrlein, 30, will drive the #4 Porsche 963 in the Hypercar category alongside IMSA GTP champions Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy. This addition marks Wehrlein’s debut at Le Mans, building on his experience gained during the 2023 season with JDC-Miller MotorSports and a subsequent outing with the works team at Spa.
“I have a very good idea about the car,” Wehrlein stated. His experience across disciplines – including DTM, Formula 1, and Formula E – has equipped him well for the multi-class endurance environment. “I feel there’s something in common with a car I’ve already driven,” he noted, drawing parallels between the Porsche 963 and his DTM experience.
Wehrlein emphasized the distinct challenges of endurance racing, particularly in traffic management with varying car classes. “The biggest thing to learn is the traffic…how to judge it,” he explained, acknowledging the unique difficulties presented by GT3 competitors during overtaking maneuvers.
His teammates, Nasr and Tandy, have commenced 2025 with victories at both the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring. Should they secure a win at Le Mans, they would achieve the coveted "endurance triple crown" within a single calendar year.
Wehrlein expressed gratitude for the guidance he has received from his co-drivers. “They have been very supportive," he added. The collaborative atmosphere within the team is an essential aspect of endurance racing, enhancing both preparation and performance on race day.
With over 300,000 fans expected at Circuit de la Sarthe, Le Mans promises to be a monumental event, and Wehrlein is ready for the challenge. “It’s nice to see what a big event this is… I’m very happy to be part of it,” he remarked. As the team prepares for the race, Wehrlein assured, “We try very hard to make it happen.”
Porsche Penske’s ambitions remain high as the countdown to Le Mans continues.
