AKKODIS ASP Leaps Forward in FIA WEC

Interlagos, Brazil – AKKODIS ASP is solidifying its position in the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) following a robust performance at the São Paulo round, where the #87 Lexus RC F LMGT3 clinched its first class victory. The accomplishment highlights a significant turnaround for the team, which faced challenges in its inaugural LMGT3 season last year.

After experiencing a steep learning curve due to stringent regulations and unique car specifications, the team’s early performances in 2024 fell short. However, recent enhancements—including a successful adaptation to Goodyear’s Hard compound tires—have led to consistent point finishes and competitive outings, including third and fourth places at Imola, a pole position at Spa, a fifth place at Le Mans, and the recent win in Brazil.

Jerome Policand, team founder, reflected on last year’s struggles, attributing initial difficulties to late program initiation and necessary redesigns for the Lexus to meet FIA WEC aero standards. “The unique nature of the FIA WEC presented complex logistical challenges, making it tough to diagnose issues effectively,” he stated. Policand emphasized the need for diligent testing, which paid off as the team focused on improving straight-line speed and tire management.

“Our main concern has been tire degradation, especially overheating fronts. We aimed for one-lap competitiveness, which we achieved, but we recognize that race pace remains a challenge,” Policand explained. With three races remaining, the #87 crew sits just 32 points off the championship lead, indicating a viable path forward.

Moving forward, AKKODIS ASP is optimistic about a new GT3 model from Lexus currently in development, enhancing not only its competitiveness in WEC but potentially expanding its involvement in other championships. Policand expressed enthusiasm about contributing to Toyota’s long-term vision for the new vehicle.

“We’re committed to collaborating with Toyota to ensure commercial viability and competitiveness of the new GT3 car,” he confirmed. The future looks promising for AKKODIS ASP as it navigates through the final stretch of the season, armed with hard-won experience and concrete plans for ongoing collaboration with the automotive giant.
