Neuville Set to Test BMW Z4 GT3 in GT3 Revival Series
Thierry Neuville, the 2024 FIA World Rally Championship drivers’ champion, will test a BMW Z4 GT3 this week at Circuit Paul Ricard as part of the inaugural GT3 Revival Series. This test, occurring on March 3-4, marks a significant step for the series, which features GT3 cars produced between 2006 and 2013.
The event will host a competitive 20-car field ahead of the series’ debut races scheduled for April 11-12. Neuville’s BMW Z4 GT3, previously victorious in the 2013 Blancpain Endurance Series at the same circuit, will be fielded by VDS Racing.
The test will also see a strong contingent of vehicles, including several Audi R8s, Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3s, Ferrari 458s, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3s, and Porsches, alongside a Ford GT Matech and a second BMW Z4. While participation in this test is not mandatory for series entry, many teams are utilizing it as a preparatory shakedown for their upcoming campaigns.
Notably, Storic and Race Cars, part of FIA WEC competitor Akkodis, will run a 2011 Ferrari 458 GT3 Evo driven by Jean-Luc Beaubelique and Jim Pla. This chassis boasts a rich racing history, including two class victories at the 24 Hours of Spa.
Additionally, Debard Automobiles by Racetivity will field a 2008 Ford GT Matech, driven by Eric Debard and Philippe Giauque, featuring one of the original chassis that clinched the 2008 FIA GT3 European Teams’ Championship.
The entry list also includes respected names from the international GT scene, such as TFT Racing and CMR, with drivers like Jonathan Hirschi and Lucas Legeret among the participants.
This week’s official test is anticipated to provide vital insights into the performance and potential of the revived GT3 platform as it gears up for its inaugural competitive season.
