Daytona 24-Hour Race: Caution Period Overshadowed by Poor Visibility
As the Daytona 24-Hour race entered its 12th hour, race control was compelled to impose a caution due to deteriorating visibility from persistent fog. The decision was underscored by race officials, who confirmed that conditions prevented marshals from effectively monitoring the track. Consequently, the race is projected to remain under Full Course Yellow until visibility improves, avoiding the complications that would arise from a red flag.
During the caution, several teams seized the opportunity for critical service in the pits, including brake changes. Notably, the leading Corvette Racing Z06 GT3.Rs in GTD Pro and the AO Racing ‘Rexy’ Porsche underwent significant mechanical work, with the latter receiving a front and rear brake change along with a front bumper replacement.
Current Standings
Midway through the race, the standings are as follows:
- GTP: The #7 Porsche leads, trailed by the #31 Action Express Cadillac, with the #6 Porsche in third place.
- LMP2: AO Racing’s #99 ORECA holds the lead, followed by the #22 United and #43 Inter Europol cars in second and third, respectively.
- GTD Pro: Paul Miller Racing’s BMW sits in first, with the Manthey #911 Porsche in second and the two Corvettes in third and fourth.
- GTD: DXDT Racing leads the class, while defending champions 13 Autosport occupy second place, and Turner BMW remains in third.
Despite the unwanted caution, the race continues to unfold, albeit hindered by five retirements, including the RS1 and Wright Motorsports Porsches, the Riley Ford from GTD, and the AF Corse ORECA from LMP2.
As the situation develops, updates will be provided as conditions permit.
