McLaren Automotive Appoints Giorgio Sanna as Head of Motorsport
McLaren Automotive has appointed Giorgio Sanna as the new Head of Motorsport, effective immediately. Sanna, known for his nine-year tenure leading Lamborghini’s racing divisions, will oversee all of McLaren’s motorsport programs, including GT3, GT4, and Trophy activities. He will report directly to Jonathan Simms, the director of McLaren Special Operations & Motorsport.
Sanna’s arrival follows the departure of Ian James, who left McLaren this summer to become team principal for Jaguar’s Formula E team. Sanna, a recognized figure in GT racing with a history of success in the Italian GT and the Asian Le Mans Series, is expected to drive growth in McLaren’s motorsport initiatives.
“His appointment further strengthens a division integral to our brand DNA,” said Simms. “Securing a recognized leader in the GT racing arena signals our determination to advance in this area, while maintaining a strong connection to our racing heritage.”
This strategic recruitment underscores McLaren’s commitment to enhancing its motorsport presence and aligning with its passionate clientele.
