Corvette Racing Prepares for Strong Showing at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Ontario – As the Chevrolet Grand Prix approaches, Corvette Racing gears up to defend its illustrious history at the venue, previously known as Mosport, where the brand has secured 14 total victories, including 13 in GT racing.

The spotlight is on Alexander Sims and Antonio Garcia, who clinched the GTD PRO title at CTMP last year in their Corvette Z06 GT3.R, marking the model’s inaugural IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship win. This year, despite a lack of victories, Sims and Garcia maintain lead in the GTD PRO standings, holding a 52-point edge over competitors Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler.

“Our points lead hasn’t come from race wins, but we’ve been consistent,” remarked Sims after practice. “We come here to win, but we also focus on maximizing our performance.” Following a challenging first practice, Sims rebounded to achieve the second-fastest time in class during Saturday’s session.

Notably, Robert Wickens returns for a pivotal race in his hand-controlled #36 DXDT Racing Corvette. A two-time victor at CTMP in the Michelin Pilot Challenge, Wickens aims to secure a win for a privateer Corvette. “This is a home race and one I’ve eagerly anticipated,” he stated. After improving his practice time to second-fastest in his class, he acknowledged the learning curve presented by the Z06 GT3.R.

Wickens finds inspiration from Canadian motorsport legend Ron Fellows, solidifying his passion for racing a Corvette. “Driving this car at home gives me immense pride,” he reflected, underscoring the support of loyal Canadian fans.

As the countdown to Sunday’s race continues, both Corvette teams are ready to contend for victory and further cement the brand’s legacy at CTMP.
