New Inductees Honored at Drivers’ Briefing
During the Wednesday evening drivers’ briefing at the Petit Theatre in Spa, four significant figures were inducted into the Crowdstrike Spa 24 Hours Hall of Fame: Thierry Tassin, Marc Duez, Audi Sport, and official supplier Pirelli. They join last year’s inaugural inductees, including Eric van de Poele.
SRO Marks 25 Years of Spa 24 Management
This year marks the 25th anniversary of SRO’s oversight of the Spa 24 Hours. Stéphane Ratel reflected on the transition to a 24-hour format and the initial challenges with public attendance. Notably, this year’s event recorded an entry of 75 cars, a strategic overbooking decision following last year’s no-shows, with only one team failing to appear.
Updated Race Procedures Introduced
Race director Niels Wittich outlined revised procedures, including a new ‘Short Full Course Yellow’ for incidents manageable in under four minutes, during which the pit lane will remain closed. Longer incidents will trigger a ‘Long Full Course Yellow’ with an open pit lane, led by a Safety Car. Wittich emphasized the need for drivers to keep to the far left or right during incidents to avoid last year’s issues. The race will commence after two formation laps, designed to optimize tire and brake temperatures.
Mattia Drudi Extends Endurance Streak
Comtoyou Aston Martin’s Mattia Drudi is set to compete in four consecutive endurance events, following this week’s Spa 24 with participation in the Fun Cup 25 Hours.
Unique Livery for Kessel Ferrari
The #8 Kessel Ferrari, competing in the Bronze Cup, features a striking design by Marco Bonanomi that incorporates the drivers’ nicknames. This distinctive livery aims to stand out on the track.
Royal Recognition for Belgian Drivers
In a special ceremony this weekend, 23 Belgian drivers received recognition during the drivers’ briefing, with members of the Belgian royal family in attendance. Each driver was presented with a red jacket, and cars displayed a ‘Racing for Belgium’ sticker, signifying their national pride.
