TGR Team au TOM’S Dominates in Season Opener at Okayama
Okayama, Japan – TGR Team au TOM’S drivers Sho Tsuboi and Kenta Yamashita marked the start of the 2026 SUPER GT season with a decisive victory at the Okayama GT 300km Race. The duo powered their #36 au TOM’S Toyota GR Supra GT500 to a commanding win, continuing their dominance of season-openers at Okayama, having now triumphed in three consecutive years.
Tsuboi and Yamashita, reigning GT500 champions, faced early competition from polesitter Toshiki Oyu in the #38 KeePer Cerumo GR Supra. Oyu led the first 33 laps before the leading Toyotas shuffled positions during their pit stops. Tsuboi seized the opportunity, overtaking rookie Rikuto Kobayashi for the lead and maintaining a significant gap to finish 19.602 seconds ahead, while Kobayashi secured a commendable second place in his debut.
Kazuki Hiramine and Bertrand Baguette clinched third in the #12 TRS Impul Nissan Z NISMO GT500, breaking Toyota’s potential podium sweep. The battle for fourth was intense, with the #14 ENEOS X Prime GR Supra edging the #39 Denso Kobelco SARD GR Supra by just half a second. Honda’s best finish came from Tomoki Nojiri and Ren Sato, who placed sixth in the #16 ARTA Mugen HRC Prelude-GT.
In GT300, Tomonobu Fujii and Charlie Fagg led from pole in their #777 D’station Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo, finishing 7.325 seconds ahead of the #2 Hyper Water INGING Toyota GR86. Miki Koyama made history by becoming the third female driver to podium in SUPER GT, finishing third alongside Kazuto Kotaka in the #31 apr Lexus LC500h.
The series will next take place at Fuji Speedway during the Golden Week special on May 4, featuring the first of two three-hour long-distance races.
