Toyota Unveils GR GT3: New Era in Racing Focused on Performance and Accessibility
Toyota Motor Corporation has officially unveiled the GR GT3, the racing variant of its soon-to-launch flagship supercar, the GR GT. This new model represents a significant evolution from the Lexus RC F GT3, enhancing Toyota’s commitment to competitive motorsport.
Technical Specifications and Development
The GR GT3 will feature a four-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, mirroring the powertrain of the road-going version, albeit without the hybrid transaxle. Designed with a focus on a low center of gravity, lightweight high-rigidity chassis, and optimized aerodynamics, the GR GT3 aims to enhance performance on both amateur and professional tracks.
Key development personnel included Akio “Morizo” Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota, his son Daisuke, and notable factory drivers Hiroaki Ishiura, Tatsuya Kataoka, and Naoya Gamou. The GR GT3 has been designed to provide a superior driving experience, with Toyota pledging to create a support system that will assist customers in fully engaging with motorsports.
Comparative Insights
Longer and wider than the RC F but with a shorter wheelbase, the GR GT3 embodies advancements in design and engineering. Toyota anticipates that the model will resonate well with both seasoned racers and newcomers alike.
Timeline and Future Outlook
The GR GT3 and its road counterpart, the GR GT, are tentatively scheduled for launch in 2027. This unveiling marks the culmination of a development journey initiated in January 2022, with concepts first presented at the Tokyo Auto Salon. Subsequent tests across international circuits have paved the way for today’s reveal, which also saw both car variants complete a successful run at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
As Toyota moves forward, the GR GT3 is set to establish a new benchmark in the GT3 category, promising to elevate the brand’s presence in global motorsports.
