Rising Star: Marlon Hernandez Impresses in LMP2 Rookie Test
Algarve Circuit, Portugal – Marlon Hernandez, a 21-year-old French driver, has generated significant buzz in the motorsport community following his exceptional performance during the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) post-season Rookie Test. Driving for TDS Racing, Hernandez clocked an impressive 1:31.876, the only driver to break the 1:32 barrier over a competitive 34-lap session.
Hernandez’s time surpassed the next fastest competitor by more than eight tenths, highlighting his potential in the ORECA 07 prototype. “I wouldn’t say I felt at home by the end of the Rookie Test, but I was improving with each lap,” he noted, emphasizing his growing confidence throughout the day.
Prior to the test, Hernandez completed two days of testing with RD Limited, which laid a crucial foundation for his performance with TDS. His rapid adaptation has been aided by his previous racing experience, including two seasons in the Porsche Carrera Cup France and a recent venture into the Ultimate Cup with a Nova prototype.
“The Nova has been a good platform to prepare me… it has a good amount of downforce,” said Hernandez, reflecting on the steep learning curve he encountered transitioning between different racing formats.
Looking ahead, Hernandez aims to continue his momentum in either the Asian Le Mans Series or the ELMS/IMSA championships in 2025. Currently, he is focused on securing the European Endurance Prototype Cup title, where he faces competition from notable drivers such as Mathias Beche.
“It’s a tight battle, and this year it’s been so competitive,” he stated, reiterating his goal to progress further into prototype racing and potentially explore GT3 options in the future. With no further tests scheduled at this time, Hernandez remains poised to capitalize on his burgeoning talent in the sportscar racing arena.
