Williams Team Principal James Vowles to Compete in Gulf 12 Hours
Abu Dhabi, UAE – James Vowles, Team Principal of Williams Racing, is set to return to competitive driving at the 2025 Gulf 12 Hours on December 14. Vowles will pilot a McLaren GT3 Evo, fielded by Garage 59, alongside co-drivers Alexander West, Marco Pulcini, and Mark Sansom.
Vowles, 46, has previous experience with Garage 59, having raced for them during the 2022 Asian Le Mans Series, where he contributed to their Pro-Am class victory. After a three-year hiatus from racing to focus on revitalizing the Williams F1 team, Vowles is eager to don his race helmet once more.
“I relish the chance to put on a race helmet again,” stated Vowles. “Garage 59 is a team I know well, and the Gulf 12 Hours features a competitive grid. Racing from the driver’s seat again will be a pleasure.”
In preparation for the event, Vowles has completed a two-day test at Circuit de Navarra in Spain, allowing him to familiarize himself with the upgraded McLaren, which features an Evo kit since his last race.
Garage 59 Team Principal Andrew Kirkaldy expressed enthusiasm for Vowles’ return: “His professionalism and strategic insight made our previous collaboration enjoyable. We look forward to achieving great results together in Abu Dhabi.”
The Gulf 12 Hours continues to attract top talent, further solidifying its place as a prominent event in the endurance racing calendar.
