García and Cameron Crowned Champions at Motul Petit Le Mans
Antonio García and Dane Cameron have solidified their status as two of the most successful drivers in the IMSA era, each capturing their fifth championship titles at the 2025 Motul Petit Le Mans. García, alongside Alexander Sims, clinched the GTD PRO Championship for Corvette Racing, while Cameron partnered with PJ Hyett to secure AO Racing’s inaugural LMP2 crown.
Championship Performance
García’s victory marks his sixth overall championship, extending a remarkable 17-year tenure with Corvette Racing, where he has driven through multiple generations of Corvette race cars. Reflecting on his success, García highlighted the team’s continuity and cohesion: “When you have a stable crew that’s been together for years, everything runs very, very smooth.” His partnership with Sims notched one win and six podium finishes across the season’s 11 races.
Cameron, for his part, has achieved five championships across five classes with different organizations, including wins in the inaugural IMSA GTD title (2014) and most recently, the GTP Championship with Porsche Penske Motorsport. After finishing sixth in the Petit Le Mans, Cameron’s win in LMP2 stood out against a competitive field. He remarked, “Five is a special number… I believed in the project, and just needed a little glue to hold everything together.”
Path to Glory
Cameron’s journey to AO Racing was marked by his departure from Porsche Penske, yet he views this championship as equally valuable as his previous titles in premier classes: “It’s hugely competitive here… it’s every bit as competitive as any other category.”
Both drivers have showcased exceptional skill in high-pressure situations. Despite the nerves that accompany championship-deciding races, García emphasized the importance of teamwork: “Once the flag went, I think I forgot about everything. Everyone knew what to do.”
Looking forward, Cameron expressed his ambition to return to Le Mans, recalling their previous victory: “Right from the get-go, I believed we could win Le Mans… it was a dream week for us.”
Conclusion
García and Cameron’s triumphs at Petit Le Mans reaffirm their elite status in American sports car racing, setting a high bar for future competitors in the IMSA ranks.
