Team WRT Launches State-of-the-Art Facility in Bierset, Belgium
Belgian motorsports powerhouse Team WRT inaugurated its expansive new facility in Bierset, near Liège, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s evolution. The modern complex covers 20,475 square meters and consolidates WRT’s operations, which were previously scattered across six locations.
The facility features a prominent race shop with 14 service bays dedicated to the team’s GT3 and Hypercar programs, currently housing multiple BMW M4 GT3s and M Hybrid V8 Hypercars. This centralization allows for enhanced efficiency in operations and improved team dynamics.
Joint CEO Vincent Vosse emphasized the strategic importance of the new building, stating, “Reuniting all WRT motorsport activities in one single location is something that we had in mind for a long time… The advantages are immense: we can interact and react better and faster.” The facility supports approximately 140 staff members and encompasses race preparation, logistics, and production for various engineering contracts, including the Toyota Supra GT4 and models for Stellantis and Hyundai.
WRT has produced around 120 competition cars annually since 2017 and is nearing a total of 1000 race cars built. The new site promises to expand production capabilities while adhering to strict sustainability standards; 70% of its energy will come from renewable sources, and the facility is designed to recycle over 95% of its waste.
Kicking off the 2023 season, WRT has celebrated victories in prestigious GT3 events, including Dubai and Bathurst, reinforcing its competitive edge in the motorsport arena.
Kathleen Schurmans, also co-CEO, highlighted the facility’s focus on innovation and sustainability. “We have taken up the challenge to be leaders in making motorsport more sustainable with the same passion and determination with which we pursue victory in racing,” she stated.
The opening event attracted around 300 guests, including notable figures from the motorsport community and local government, underscoring WRT’s significant impact on the industry and its commitment to a sustainable future.
