Australian racer Martin Berry is set to fill the third seat in the No. 61 Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 for Iron Lynx in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), participating in all but one of the remaining races this season. Berry, 47, replaces Christian Ried, co-owner of Proton Competition, who drove for Iron Lynx at Qatar and Imola amid logistical challenges arising from their recent partnership with AMG.
Berry will make his WEC debut at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps next weekend. He is also scheduled to participate in the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours next month, followed by races at Circuit of The Americas, Fuji, and Bahrain. Notably, he will miss the 6 Hours of São Paulo in July due to a prior commitment, with Ried expected to regain his seat for that event.
This opportunity comes as Berry continues his ELMS LMGT3 campaign with Iron Lynx, where he recently secured class pole position at the season opener in Barcelona.
“It’s a dream come true for me,” Berry stated. “It’s good to be with Iron Lynx too; I feel really good in the car, and the team feels like a family. The big dream is to maybe do Le Mans together one day with my 16-year-old son, who just started F4.”
Berry’s upcoming involvement in the WEC signifies his growing presence in international endurance racing and underscores Iron Lynx’s commitment to fostering talent within the sport. The team’s performance and strategic driver placements will be pivotal as they pursue competitive placements in the remaining championship rounds.
