Cetilar Racing Dominates Sepang Opener of 2025-26 Asian Le Mans Series
In a commanding display at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia, Cetilar Racing secured a double victory in the opening round of the 2025-26 Asian Le Mans Series. The trio of Roberto Lacorte, Charles Milesi, and Antonio Fuoco clinched both race wins, showcasing exceptional performance amid challenging weather conditions.
The weekend’s events were significantly impacted by intermittent rainstorms, prompting multiple strategic adjustments from teams. The race featured three Virtual Safety Car (VSC) periods, a full safety car deployment, and two full course yellows, ultimately shortening the race duration by 20 minutes to three hours and 40 minutes as heavy rain flooded the track.
At the checkered flag, the No. 47 Cetilar Racing ORECA LMP2 entry led the charge, finishing ahead of the No. 25 Algarve Pro Racing car, with the No. 4 Crowdstrike by APR team securing third place, replicating the Race 1 podium.
In the LMP3 category, victory went to the No. 17 CLX Motorsport Ligier, thanks to strategic pit stop execution by Paul Lanchere during the early VSC period. Lanchere’s decisive strategy paid dividends, enabling him to stand atop the podium alongside teammates Kevin Rabin and Alexander Jacoby. They were followed by the No. 71 23Events Racing and the No. 29 Forestier Racing by VPS Ligiers in second and third, respectively.
In the GT class, Kessel Racing’s Ferrari 296 GT3 claimed the top honors, with Dustin Scott Blattner making an impressive ascent from 15th to third in the opening laps. Strategic tire decisions allowed teammates Chris Lulham and Dennis Marschall to maintain their lead through to the finish. The No. 69 Team WRT BMW M4, which had undergone an overnight engine change, finished in second, while the No. 87 Origine Motorsport Porsche, displaying competitive speed, took third.
Looking ahead, the next round of the Asian Le Mans Series will take place at the 4 Hours of Dubai, featuring races on January 31 and February 1.
