Ferrari Unveils 296 GT3 Evo Ahead of 2026 Race Debut
Maranello, Italy – Ferrari has officially unveiled the 296 GT3 Evo, set to make its competitive debut in 2026, three years following the original model’s introduction at Spa in 2022. This new iteration enhances the acclaimed 296 GT3, which has secured nearly 150 victories globally.
Emphasizing modularity and ease of maintenance, key updates to the 296 GT3 Evo are informed by customer feedback and extensive experience gained in both FIA WEC and ELMS series. The modifications aim to boost competitiveness under varying conditions.
While the V6 engine remains unchanged, the gearbox features a newly optimized gear ratio cascade. This adjustment aims to enhance torque delivery across a broader range of speeds, reflecting insights gained from two years of competitive usage.
The updated aerodynamics aim for improved predictability and stability during races. Engineers have intensified efforts on front vertical load stability and aerodynamic sensitivity through advancements in simulation technologies combined with wind tunnel testing. Notable changes include a revamped splitter, redesigned front floor, and modified bumper appendages. Enhancements to the rear diffuser have also improved airflow dynamics.
Front wheel arch louvers have been redesigned to facilitate airflow to the rear air intakes, both in free air and slipstream situations. Brake and cockpit cooling has increased by over 20% through redesigned air intakes. Enhanced cooling solutions have also been implemented for the steering pump with the addition of NACA intakes.
A new rear wing features an adjustable support allowing teams to make rapid alterations, while the repositioned rear-view mirrors offer improved visibility. The vehicle retains the adaptable bodywork of the LMGT3-spec 296, accommodating different tire types.
Homologation for the 296 GT3 Evo is projected to complete in time for the 2026 season, with production commencing in Q4 of 2025. Teams will have the option to upgrade from the current model via a special kit.
In parallel to the Evo development, Ferrari has confirmed a two-seater version, referred to as ‘Biposto.’ According to Alessandra Todeschini, head of endurance programs at Ferrari, this version required significant interior modifications to accommodate a second seat while maintaining structural integrity.
