BMW’s Team WRT Celebrates Inauguration of New Belgium Headquarters

On Tuesday, BMW factory racing partner Team WRT officially inaugurated its new state-of-the-art headquarters in Bierset, Belgium, marking a significant milestone for the team. The expansive facility spans 20,475 square meters and consolidates various operations previously spread across six locations, enhancing efficiency and collaboration for its 140 employees.

The headquarters supports Team WRT’s global GT3 and Hypercar racing initiatives and features a large race shop equipped with numerous service bays for M4 GT3s and four M Hybrid V8 Hypercars. A dedicated area for pit stop preparation further optimizes race readiness.

The five-story building also houses assembly shops for diverse engineering contracts, including the Toyota Supra GT4 and vehicles for Stellantis and Hyundai. Over the past several years, WRT has constructed nearly 120 competition cars annually, inching closer to a total of 1,000 by this year, allowing for expanded production capabilities.

W Racing Team co-CEOs Kathleen Schurmans and Vincent Vosse, alongside Weerts Group CEO Yves Weerts, welcomed around 300 guests, including prominent figures such as Pierre-Yves Jeholet, vice president of the Government of Wallonia, and racing icon Jacky Ickx.

Vincent Vosse highlighted the significance of the facility: “Reuniting all WRT motorsport activities in one location is a long-held vision for us. The advantages of collaboration will drive our innovation and competitiveness.” Emphasizing the team’s recent successes, Vosse noted victories in prestigious events such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bathurst, and Paul Ricard, as well as strong performances in the FIA WEC.

Sustainability was a focal point during the event, with the facility designed to adhere to rigorous environmental standards. It is equipped to generate 70% of its energy from renewable sources and contains systems for rainwater storage and a comprehensive recycling program.

Kathleen Schurmans articulated the team’s commitment to sustainability: “This new building not only unifies our racing and manufacturing activities but also reflects our dedication to environmental stewardship in motorsport.”

Looking ahead, WRT outlined plans for the upcoming 2025 Spa 24 Hours, with five BMW M4 GT3 Evos set to compete, reinforcing the team’s ongoing pursuit of excellence on the track.
