AWA Targets Historic Debut at 24 Hours of Le Mans
Le Mans, France – Andrew Wojteczko Autosport (AWA) is poised for its inaugural run at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, entering the iconic race with a reputation bolstered by recent successes, including a GTD class victory at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. AWA, though less established than competitors like WRT, Manthey, and AF Corse, brings a competitive spirit and a promising lineup.
Wojteczko emphasized the team’s remarkable journey since its founding in 2018. "Coming back to win Daytona was a huge accomplishment and a great validation for all involved," he stated, reflecting on the team’s evolution from a single Ford Mustang GT4 to their current Corvette Z06 GT3.R, which represents Chevrolet’s commitment to privateer GT racing.
The team’s success has been cemented by consistent performances, including multiple championship accolades and a solid foundation established through a collaborative partnership with Corvette Racing. Notably, driver Orey Fidani, who won the IMSA Bob Akin Award, is joined by veteran Lars Kern and Matthew Bell, each bringing valuable experience to the highly competitive LMGT3 field.
Despite being rookies at Le Mans, Fidani and Kern have gained familiarity with the Circuit de la Sarthe through strategic testing efforts. "Last year’s support series experience at Le Mans was crucial for our adaptation," Wojteczko noted, emphasizing the importance of prior exposure to the track.
Fidani expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity: "This place is absolutely amazing. We’re well sorted and will aim for a win or podium," he remarked, highlighting the intense preparation that has led up to this moment.
The challenges facing AWA are not insignificant; their Daytona-winning Corvette has been retired from Le Mans, with a newly commissioned chassis prepared for competition. “This puts us in a decent position to contend for Corvette’s tenth GT class win at Le Mans,” Wojteczko added.
With 25 team members and support from TF Sport, AWA is set to make a meaningful impact in what has been a difficult era for Canadian motorsport. As the race weekend approaches, AWA hopes to make history alongside its drivers, potentially securing a win that would further cement their place in the industry.
The stage is set for AWA to make a powerful statement against the established giants in endurance racing—eyes will be on the #13 Corvette as it aims to defy expectations, with the spirit of Canadian motorsport behind them.
