2025 Nürburgring 24 Hours: Race Halted Due to Power Failure
Nürburgring, Germany – The 2025 Nürburgring 24 Hours faced an unexpected suspension roughly 90 minutes into the race due to a power outage in the pit lane. The decision to red-flag the event was confirmed by race organizers, who will utilize the previous lap running order to restart the race behind the safety car.
At the time of the stoppage, the Kondo Ferrari was in the lead, followed closely by the GetSpeed #17 Mercedes in second and Walkenhorst #34 Aston Martin piloted by Mattia Drudi in third. Updates regarding the restart timeline remain pending, with officials indicating they will share information as soon as possible.
This incident marks a unique interruption in the history of the Nürburgring 24 Hours, described as “the most curious reason” for a red flag. The power failure disrupted the live timing system and refueling operations. Hans-Peter Naundorf, team principal of ROWE Racing, commented, “We’ve had everything possible: hail, storms, but not something like this yet. It was the only right decision to show the red flag.”
Prior to the red flag, the race featured intense competition. Adam Christodoulou in the #17 Mercedes managed to break away momentarily from the pack, which was closely following the Kondo Ferrari. An incident involving Drudi, who was slow off the speed limiter, resulted in a collision with Christopher Haase’s #1 Scherer Sport PHX Audi, allowing Maro Engel to capitalize and secure fourth position.
Meanwhile, Augusto Farfus and Kevin Estre were battling for sixth and seventh, sandwiched between the Falken cars. The #11 Schnitzelalm Mercedes faced issues as it lost a right rear wheel and ended up in gravel on the GP loop shortly before the race was halted.
As the wait for power restoration continues, teams are preparing for what promises to be a fierce restart.
