Charles Leclerc Acquires Classic Ferrari 275 GTB Series I
Monaco, [Date] – Ferrari Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc has added a rare classic to his automotive collection: a Ferrari 275 GTB Series I, valued at approximately $2.5 million. The vehicle was recently seen in the streets of Monaco, showcasing its iconic Verde Scuro paint.
Produced in 1965, only 200 units of the 275 GTB were manufactured. It features a 3.3-liter Colombo V12 engine that delivers 280 horsepower, making it a notable entry in Ferrari’s storied lineage. This model marked several technological advancements, including the introduction of Ferrari’s first road-going 5-speed gearbox and an independent rear suspension, designed by Pininfarina.
Notably, the 275 GTB has a significant racing pedigree, having secured a third-place finish at the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans, trailing only behind the legendary 250 LMs.
Leclerc, who previously test drove a restored version at Ferrari’s Fiorano test track in 2021, expressed his admiration for the vehicle. "What an incredible car to drive. You can hear the sound; it’s just incredible—pure joy," he noted. He emphasized the historical significance of the 275 GTB, stating, "You can feel the story behind it, and that’s what’s so nice."
Leclerc highlighted the stark evolution of automotive technology since the 1960s, appreciating the unique driving experience the 275 offers. "I cannot imagine what it was like racing this car. It would have been something very, very special," he added.
The 275 GTB joins an impressive array of vehicles in Leclerc’s collection, which includes a Ferrari Daytona SP3, an 812 Competizione Aperta, a Purosangue, and a 488 Pista.
