Tsunoda Takes Responsibility Following Challenging Austrian Grand Prix
Spielberg, Austria – Yuki Tsunoda accepted full accountability for his disappointing performance at the Austrian Grand Prix, where he finished 16th, two laps behind race winner Lando Norris. Having recently been promoted to replace Liam Lawson as Max Verstappen’s teammate at Red Bull Racing, Tsunoda has struggled to adapt, garnering only seven points in nine races since the start of the season.
Eliminated in Q1, Tsunoda experienced a particularly tough weekend, lacking pace throughout the race and earning a 10-second penalty for colliding with Franco Colapinto of Alpine. “The issue in the race was me,” Tsunoda stated. “The overtake attempt was unnecessary, and my racecraft wasn’t ideal.”
Despite these setbacks, Tsunoda emphasized he still feels supported by Red Bull’s leadership, including team principal Christian Horner and advisor Helmut Marko, who have both confirmed he will remain with the team for the season. Tsunoda remarked, “I feel definitely the support, especially these days and more than ever, from Christian and Helmut.”
While underperforming compared to four-time world champion Verstappen, Tsunoda remains confident in his capability to enhance his performance. “It depends on the driver, but I feel I’m in the right direction,” he commented. “I know there’s more to come from me and the package.”
Looking ahead, Tsunoda outlined plans to address weaknesses in his long-run performance, which has been a persistent challenge. “I’m working hard to find my rhythm,” he noted, underscoring his commitment to improvement as he prepares for the next race at Silverstone.
With clear support from Red Bull management, Tsunoda seeks to turn his season around and prove his worth within the competitive F1 landscape.
