Hamilton Discusses Future of F1: The Movie Amid Box Office Success
Lewis Hamilton, co-producer and consultant on F1: The Movie, has not dismissed the idea of a sequel but emphasized the importance of not rushing the project. The film, featuring Brad Pitt, has achieved significant box office success, grossing $144 million globally in its opening weekend, marking it as Apple’s biggest hit to date.
Ahead of the British Grand Prix, Hamilton stated, “We literally just finished it… the last thing we want right now is a sequel.” He highlighted the extensive effort put into the film, saying, “It’s been four years in the making… it’s time away from your family, and you need this to just simmer for a while.” He cautioned that hastily produced sequels often disappoint, advocating for a careful approach: “If we do a sequel, I would say let’s really, really take our time in getting it even better.”
Hamilton remains engaged with the project post-production, proposing a debrief akin to F1 team meetings to review the film’s strengths and identify areas for improvement. He was actively involved in the development and scriptwriting process, serving as a liaison between the filmmakers and the F1 paddock, which included contributions from various F1 drivers and team principals such as Zak Brown, Toto Wolff, and Fred Vasseur.
As the motorsport community reflects on the film’s initial success, Hamilton’s insights underscore the need for thoughtful planning in any potential continuation of this cinematic venture.
