Beechdean Motorsport Shows Resilience in British GT Season
Beechdean Motorsport, a stalwart in the British GT, celebrated its 15th season with Aston Martin machinery, showcasing notable performances recently. The team achieved its highest finish of the 2025 season with a fifth place at the three-hour endurance race at Spa-Francorchamps. Shortly thereafter, they secured a second-place finish in the Pro/Am class at the 24 Hours of Spa, underscoring their growing competitiveness.
Team principal and driver Andrew Howard, a two-time British GT champion, reflected on the evolving landscape of the championship. "British GT has always been top-tier… You’ve got Americans coming over saying they want to win British GT because it’s the best Pro-Am series in Europe," Howard stated, emphasizing the significance of outright victories.
Howard shares the #97 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo this season with teammate Tom Wood, who debuted last year at Brands Hatch with a sixth-place finish. Howard praised Wood’s professionalism and contribution to the team: "He’s done brilliantly… Tom’s quick, but also professional."
Track limits were a major consideration at Spa, with strict policies necessitating precision. "Track limits offer a huge time benefit… You’ve got to have the emotional control to stay within them," Howard explained, noting that discipline profoundly affected the outcomes in endurance racing.
The Aston Martin Vantage, having undergone updates since its introduction in 2012, showed improved performance this season. Howard noted, "It’s not always the fastest over one lap, but it’s got great balance over a stint," which proved advantageous during long races. The team has cultivated a positive relationship with Aston Martin and Prodrive, supporting both sponsors and emerging drivers.
Despite a reduction in the overall grid size, Howard maintained that competition has not diminished, asserting, "I think the competitive nature of the championship is incredibly strong… While grid numbers are down, that doesn’t reflect the competitiveness."
In the Silver-Am standings, Beechdean leads by a narrow margin against the Bridger Motorsport Honda NSX GT3 Evo. Howard remains focused on the title, stating, "History will record who won the class, not how many cars there were."
Looking ahead, Beechdean prepares for Rounds 6 and 7 at Snetterton, a crucial juncture in the championship where positioning will be critical. As Howard aptly put it, "If we can drive further in an hour than they can, we win. It’s that simple."
The team’s results and competitive spirit continue to solidify Beechdean Motorsport’s legacy within the British GT landscape.
