Haas F1 Team Taps Sho Tsuboi for Upcoming Test at Fuji Speedway
The Haas Formula 1 team has confirmed that reigning Super Formula champion Sho Tsuboi will participate in a two-day TPC test with the VF-23 at Fuji Speedway on August 6-7. This marks Tsuboi’s debut with F1 machinery, following his championship win in Super Formula last season with Toyota’s TOM’S team.
Tsuboi, 30, expressed gratitude for the opportunity via social media, stating, “Thank you to Team Haas and TGR [Toyota Gazoo Racing] for giving me this wonderful opportunity. I want to make this the perfect day and take this once-in-a-lifetime chance to make my dreams come true.”
The test represents the latest development in the collaboration between Haas and Toyota, initially announced last year. Tsuboi will join Haas reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa, who has prior experience with the team, including participation in FP1 sessions this season in Bahrain and Spain. Notably, Tsuboi’s predecessor, Ritomo Miyata, also tested for Haas earlier this year in Jerez.
In 2022, Tsuboi secured the Super Formula title after winning three races at Fuji. Currently, he ranks third in the Super Formula standings ahead of the sixth and seventh rounds, which will also take place at Fuji. Additionally, Tsuboi leads the Super GT standings, aiming for his fourth title in five years.
The upcoming test is a significant milestone for Tsuboi and highlights Haas’s ongoing commitment to developing driver talent through strategic partnerships.
