Ferrari Tests Upgraded SF-25 at Mugello
Ferrari’s Formula 1 team is conducting critical testing at Mugello on Wednesday, utilizing a filming day to evaluate the revised SF-25. Both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will be behind the wheel, providing the team with essential feedback on a newly implemented rear suspension system.
This test follows recent floor upgrades that contributed to improved performance at the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone, where Ferrari aims to regain competitiveness as the second half of the season approaches. The completion of the new suspension system, which faced challenges in attachment points and load management, is pivotal as the team gears up for the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix on July 25-27.
Data from simulations has suggested promising results, but on-track validation is crucial. "It combines numbers with drivers’ feedback, opening up setup options," a Ferrari spokesperson noted. The enhanced suspension configuration is expected to reduce sensitivity to ride height, potentially optimizing tire performance and contributing an estimated tenth of a second in lap time.
Currently, Ferrari sits in a distant second place in the constructors’ championship, trailing McLaren by 238 points. The team has yet to maximize its potential this season, as illustrated by Hamilton’s struggles at Silverstone, where setup issues hindered his performance.
As the team prepares to ship materials to Spa-Francorchamps, the Mugello test represents a significant opportunity for Ferrari to benchmark its developments against the competition, specifically targeting a return to victory in the current season.
