Mick Schumacher in Talks with Cadillac F1 Team
Mick Schumacher has reported "very positive" discussions with the Cadillac Formula 1 team, which is set to join the championship as its 11th team in 2026. This revelation comes as the German driver continues to pursue a full-time return to Formula 1.
Following the end of his two-year tenure with Haas at the conclusion of the 2022 season, Schumacher has been serving as a reserve driver for Mercedes while also initiating a career in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with Alpine. Despite finding success in WEC, he remains determined to re-enter the F1 grid.
In an interview with the Brazilian edition of Motorsport.com, Schumacher stated, "Yes, of course, discussions are ongoing. The communication has been very positive so far." He noted the significant staffing efforts by Cadillac, calling it an "honour" to be in negotiations with them.
Team principal Graeme Lowdon confirmed ongoing driver negotiations during a recent appearance on the High Performance podcast. Various names have surfaced in connection to Cadillac, including Mercedes reserve driver Valtteri Bottas and former Red Bull driver Sergio Perez, alongside Schumacher.
Lowdon emphasized the importance of team goals over individual aspirations, stating, "The driver is there to do the best that they possibly can for their team." He further noted that while drivers may seek to prove themselves, the primary focus should be on contributing to the team’s success rather than personal validation.
As the clock ticks down to Cadillac’s entry, further developments in driver signings are anticipated as the team solidifies its roster in the coming months.
