Logan Sargeant Returns to Racing with PR1/Mathiasen in IMSA LMP2
Logan Sargeant is poised for a significant return to competitive motorsport, joining the IMSA SportsCar Championship’s LMP2 category with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports. After a year of reflection following his mid-season departure from Williams in Formula One, Sargeant will race in the final two rounds of the Endurance Cup at Indianapolis and Road Atlanta, sharing the #52 ORECA 07 with Naveen Rao and Benjamin Pedersen.
Reflecting on his F1 experience, Sargeant stated, “I enjoyed my time there. It was rocky, but I wouldn’t trade that out for anything.” However, the intense environment led him to reassess his future in racing. “My mind just felt like it needed a little break,” he explained, emphasizing the emotional and physical challenges he faced.
In the interim, Sargeant maintained his fitness and rekindled his passion for motorsport. “I started to want to get back to racing and watch it this year,” he noted, marking the gradual return of his competitive spirit. His eventual decision to join endurance racing aligns with his prior experience in the LMP2 category from 2021.
Sargeant previously considered a campaign with IDEC Sport in the European Le Mans Series but opted to wait for the right opportunity. “I didn’t want to lock myself into anything, as I was still unsure at that point where I wanted to be. I needed more time,” he explained.
His connection with PR1/Mathiasen came through his new manager, Oliver Gavin, which rapidly led to his current opportunity. “I was surprised how quickly this chance to race with PR1 came about,” Sargeant recalled.
Before hitting the track, Sargeant will undergo tests at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Road Atlanta to familiarize himself with the team’s car and the circuits. He expressed confidence in the ORECA 07, stating, “It feels natural, and I enjoy driving it.”
Looking forward, Sargeant aims to establish himself in high-level sportscar racing, with aspirations for a seat in GTP or Hypercar categories in the future. “I want to see what opportunities come across the table for next year,” he commented, while remaining focused on the immediate challenges ahead.
With Sargeant’s return to competitive racing in the near future, the motorsport community eagerly anticipates his performance in the upcoming races.
