Azerbaijan Grand Prix Secures Extended Formula 1 Deal Through 2030
Azerbaijan will remain on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2030, following a new four-year contract announced today. This agreement ensures the continuation of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, set to mark its ninth edition in 2025 on the Baku City Circuit, which first hosted a race in 2016 under the European Grand Prix label.
The 3.73-mile Baku track is known for its unpredictability, with only Sergio Perez having won multiple times, while Charles Leclerc holds the record for poles with four starts from P1. The event had faced the potential for contract expiration at the end of the upcoming season, but this renewal solidifies its place in the F1 schedule for the upcoming decade.
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali commented on the renewal, stating, “The circuit is unique, with technical sections and long straights that run through the stunning shoreline and historic old town, delivering an eventful and entertaining race every year.” He further acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the Azerbaijani government and local organizers in enhancing the event’s profile.
Farid Gayibov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, emphasized the grand prix’s significance in establishing the country as a global sporting hub: “Over the years, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix has grown into one of the most anticipated races on the F1 calendar, showcasing not only thrilling on-track action but also the beauty, energy, and hospitality of our capital.”
As the Azerbaijan Grand Prix solidifies its future, the contracts for three additional events—United States Grand Prix in Austin, Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, and Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort—are also set to conclude next season, with Austin expected to remain, while Barcelona is in transition due to a host change to Madrid. The Dutch Grand Prix management has already announced it will not pursue a contract extension beyond 2024.
