AO Racing Confirmed for IMSA 2025 Season with Rexy and Spike
AO Racing has officially announced the continuation of its campaigns in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for the 2025 season, featuring two prominent entries: the #77 Porsche 911 GT3 R, affectionately known as “Rexy,” and the #99 ORECA 07-Gibson, referred to as “Spike.”
Rexy enters its fourth season, with a strong track record in the GTD PRO category following a successful debut in the 2023 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The car, driven by Laurin Heinrich and co-driver Klaus Bachler, clinched the 2024 IMSA GTD PRO Championship, exemplifying Heinrich’s rising stature as a top-tier GT3 driver. Notably, Rexy secured victory at the 2024 Sebring 12 Hours and helped Roxy—its sister car—achieve its first win at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
In parallel, Spike begins its third season in the LMP2 class, with Team Owner PJ Hyett establishing himself as one of the leading Bronze drivers. Hyett and teammate Dane Cameron secured the LMP2 Pro/Am class win at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours, alongside Cadillac WTR driver Louis Delétraz. The duo is poised to compete in this weekend’s Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, where they aim for the LMP2 Championship and the Jim Trueman Award, which could earn Hyett an automatic invitation to the 2026 Le Mans 24 Hours.
AO Racing also celebrated victories in the 2024 European Le Mans Series LMP2 Championship in collaboration with TF Sport, demonstrating their competitive edge in endurance racing.
Both Rexy and Spike will sport Halloween-themed skeleton liveries at this weekend’s event, adding a festive touch as the team prepares for next season. Driver announcements for 2026 will be made in due course.
