Indianapolis 8 Hour Testing: Strong Field and Competitive Times
Indianapolis, IN – The testing session for the Indianapolis 8 Hour Presented by AWS commenced today, showcasing a diverse lineup, including prominent “wild card” entries amid the GT World Challenge America competitors. The event is poised to draw considerable attention, especially with Valentino Rossi driving the tradition-steeped #46 WRT BMW, alongside Kelvin van der Linde and Charles Weerts.
Team WRT aims to secure a third consecutive overall title, running two BMW M4 GT3 EVOs. The #777, supported by Al Manar Racing, and #46, featuring Rossi, are favorites after their recent success at Suzuka.
In the first test session, Philip Eng led the charge, piloting the #51 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO to a top time of 1:23.636. He was closely followed by van der Linde’s #46 WRT BMW at 1:23.724. Mikaël Grenier in the #34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG took third, signaling a promising competitive balance ahead of the main event.

In regulatory updates, SRO America has adjusted the date for its 2026 event at Sebring, moving it up a week to avoid clashes with other major races. The GT World Challenge America main event will now be held as a night race on Saturday, May 9.
