Legends of Le Mans Series Set for 2026 Launch
The 2026 Legends of Le Mans Series is progressing towards its inaugural season, scheduled to support the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at notable circuits including Imola, Spa, and Bahrain, along with a multi-race showcase at the Classic Le Mans.
This new series will feature a maximum of 34 entries, divided between 14 LMP1, 10 LMP2, and 10 GTE vehicles. Initially, LMP1 entries will consist of non-hybrid models produced between 2006 and 2012, while LMP2 cars from 2006 to 2015 are eligible, alongside GTE machinery homologated from 2011 to 2015. Recent revisions have expanded GTE eligibility through 2020, permitting models such as the Porsche 911 RSR, Ford GT, and Ferrari 488 GTE to compete.
To qualify, participating cars must have a racing history at notable endurance events, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 24 Hours of Daytona, and series such as WEC, ELMS, IMSA, or ILMC.
Alan McGarrity, former RLR MSport Team Manager, highlighted the positive reception among potential entrants, stating, “There’s a lot of eligible cars and a fair amount of interest, particularly with the change to the GTE eligibility period. I’m speaking to several parties with significant cars that could now be entered, and it seems likely that we will see a strong GTE grid.”
The series aims to provide extensive track time, featuring two free practice sessions, two qualifying rounds, and two 40-minute races as part of the supporting program for WEC events. Registrations for interested participants are currently open.
