Tim Cindric Navigates New Horizons Post-Penske Departure
Former Team Penske president Tim Cindric, after three decades leading prominent racing programs, remains busy while exploring new opportunities within and beyond motorsports. Following his unexpected departure in May, alongside two other team executives, Cindric is embracing this transitional period as a chance to reconnect with life outside the fast-paced world of motorsport.
“I’ve just been catching up on life,” Cindric stated in an interview with RACER, highlighting his openness to diverse prospects, albeit with caution. “There’s certainly more to life than motorsport. I’m finding out that’s all I’ve done all my life.”
Cindric has a rich history in racing, beginning with Bobby Rahal’s CART IndyCar Series team before advancing to lead Penske’s CART program. Over the years, he played pivotal roles in various high-profile initiatives, including the shift to the Indy Racing League and the establishment of the Penske Porsche RS Spyder LMP2 program in 2005. His extensive management experience also includes overseeing international expansions into Australian Supercars through a partnership with DJR Team Penske, which later transitioned to Porsche Penske Motorsport’s Hypercar effort.
However, the demanding responsibilities ultimately took a toll. By the end of 2024, Cindric was exhausted and sought to reduce his commitments, eventually leading to a compromise where he would focus primarily on the IndyCar program with increased support from colleagues for day-to-day operations.
While his exit from Team Penske was surprising to many, Cindric expresses a newfound clarity. His son, Austin, currently competing in the Supercars series in Australia, contrasts with his own recent choice to remain stateside and spend Thanksgiving with family—an indication of his desire for a more balanced lifestyle.
“I have a few other business interests that occupy some of my time, but they’re really nothing worth talking about,” Cindric noted. He remains selective about prospective roles in motorsport as he evaluates his next steps.
As he reflects on his career, Cindric is poised for the next chapter, remaining an influential figure in the motorsport community while savoring the relaxation of his recent months.
