Monochrome GT4 Australia Concludes Season at Sandown Amid Challenging Conditions
Melbourne, Australia – The final event of the SRO GT Festival at Sandown Raceway witnessed intense competition as Monochrome GT4 Australia wrapped up its season under challenging weather conditions. Rain impacted qualifying and Race 1, but key championship outcomes were determined as the weekend progressed.
The championship battles remained tight, with 52 points available across Silver, Silver-Am, and Am classes. The #25 Method Motorsport McLaren’s Tom Hayman and Jett Murray led the Silver standings with a 45-point cushion, needing only to finish Race 1 to clinch the title. The #48 Purdie Racing Audi had to win both races to contend.
In Silver-Am, the fight involved the #75 Tufflift Racing McLaren, holding a two-point lead over Dean Campbell’s #118 Method Motorsport Mustang, with Ryder Quinn closely behind in the #3 Thunder Buddies Racing BMW. The Am class was led by Glenn Walker in the #14 Gomersall Motorsport Mustang, who faced a 16-point advantage over the #64 Method Motorsport McLaren duo.
Qualifying saw Caleb Paterson dominate in the #28 Norganic Proteins Porsche, securing pole with a lap of 1:19.6448. Race 1 commenced under grey skies but was disrupted by a major incident involving Jensen Shearer’s #46 Rennen Racing Porsche, necessitating a red flag for barrier repairs.
Once the race resumed, Jack Wallis in the #62 Wallis Motorsport Mustang battled for the lead, ultimately securing victory by just over a second against Lachie Dalton’s #27 Multispares Racing Mustang. The #48 Purdie Racing Audi finished third, while Hayman and Murray clinched the Silver-Class championship with an 11th-place finish.
In Silver-Am, Evennett and Torti took the class win, while the Am-Class victory went to Callaghan and Lillis, setting the stage for an exciting final race on Sunday.
With the championship still in play for Silver-Am and Am, the next day’s qualifying faced multiple interruptions due to red flags. Hayman clocked a 1:20.0668 for pole, with Lillis in the #64 Porsche and Campbell’s Mustang securing their respective class poles.
Race 2 began under sunny skies but was quickly halted by another red flag following a Turn 3 collision involving the #128 Team Soutar Motorsport McLaren. After a suspension, Murray surged to an early lead, but subsequent incidents caused more drama in the midfield.
Crucially, Walker received a 15-second penalty, impacting his title bid in Am. Ultimately, Callaghan and Lillis maintained a steady lead to win the Am-Class and secure the championship.
In Silver-Am, the tightly contested finish resulted in the #75 Tufflift Racing McLaren edging out the #118 Mustang by just two points after a photo finish. Hayman finished strong, claiming his 10th victory in GT4 Australia and solidifying a three-peat championship for Method Motorsport.
