AO Racing Unveils Striking Gold Livery for Rolex 24 at Daytona
AO Racing has unveiled a special gold livery for its No. 99 ORECA 07-Gibson LMP2, dubbed “Spike the Dragon,” ahead of the 64th Rolex 24 At Daytona. This design marks a thematic evolution, celebrating the car’s recent successes and drawing inspiration from its past victories.
“While Spike the Dragon rested in his lair, he molted and his purple scales were shed,” the team explained during the livery reveal. This transformation coincides with the car’s return to Daytona International Speedway, further signifying its readiness to compete.
The gold finish enhances Spike’s previous success, most notably when it clinched victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 Pro/Am category. AO Racing’s No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 R, known as “Rexy,” will also feature a golden-diamond fang to celebrate its achievements in the 2024 GTD PRO championship.
This year’s Rolex 24 will present an opportunity for drivers PJ Hyett, Dane Cameron, Jonny Edgar, and Christian Rasmussen to redeem themselves following a setback in 2023. Last year, despite leading more laps than any other team, they experienced a battery issue that cost them the victory with less than 90 minutes remaining.
In a strong comeback, Hyett and Cameron later captured consecutive IMSA victories at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Road America, culminating in their first IMSA LMP2 championship.
As the Rolex 24 approaches, AO Racing aims to build on its recent momentum with the gold-clad Spike the Dragon.
