Nick Tandy Returns to IMSA in GTD Pro with AO Racing
Date: January 2026
Nick Tandy’s return to the IMSA series marks a significant pivot in his career, as he rejoins GTD Pro competition with AO Racing after a notable stint with Porsche Penske Motorsport. Following a landmark achievement of completing the 24-hour race ‘Grand Slam’ with Porsche in 2025, Tandy steps back into GT racing, a shift he describes as a “homecoming.”
The 41-year-old, who has transitioned away from the Porsche 963 after three years in GTP, shared insights on the transformation of IMSA’s GT landscape. “I’m super excited,” Tandy stated in an interview. “The GTD Pro class has attracted an incredible field and is resembling the competitive nature of the old GTLM class, which was the pinnacle of racing for me.”
Tandy will pilot the Porsche 911 GT3 R alongside teammates Harry King and Alessio Picariello, both of whom bring considerable talent and experience. Tandy remarked, “Harry and I get on like a house on fire. From a chemistry point of view, it’s easy.” He noted the importance of their collective experience in optimizing performance for the upcoming season.
The AO Racing squad is bolstered by a strong lineup, expected to contend for the GTD Pro title, showcased by competitive entries from established teams like Corvette Racing and the restructured Ford Racing. Tandy highlighted AO Racing’s commitment to excellence, mentioning their impressive recent performances, including LMP2 victories in the ELMS and IMSA.
Looking ahead, Tandy’s immediate focus is on winning key races in the 2026 season and exploring future opportunities, either within GT racing or potentially returning to prototypes. “Right now, my focus is on this program and Daytona. What happens next year isn’t my priority,” he explained.
As the season progresses, Tandy’s performance will be closely monitored, emphasizing AO Racing’s potential to reclaim its 2024 title amidst fierce competition in GTD Pro.
