Tower Motorsports Parts Ways with Sébastien Bourdais Ahead of 2026 FIA WEC Season
IMSA LMP2 team Tower Motorsports has officially announced the departure of veteran driver Sébastien Bourdais from its WeatherTech SportsCar Championship lineup. The team confirmed that Bourdais, 46, will concentrate on his responsibilities with Cadillac’s Hypercar program as the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season approaches.
In a statement, Tower Motorsports expressed gratitude for Bourdais’s contributions: “We respect and support Sébastien’s commitment to his responsibilities with Cadillac and appreciate the professionalism, experience, and speed he brought to our organisation. We thank Sébastien for his contributions and wish him continued success for the remainder of the WEC season and beyond.”
Bourdais joined Tower Motorsports at the beginning of the 2025 season after concluding his time with Chip Ganassi Racing’s Cadillac GTP effort. He made an impressive debut with the team at the 2025 Rolex 24 at Daytona, although the team was later penalized for a technical infraction that stripped them of the victory. He also secured a podium finish at the 12 Hours of Sebring during his tenure.
Throughout the season, Bourdais prioritized his role in the FIA WEC with Cadillac Hertz Team Jota, resulting in missed appearances at some IMSA events, including the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park sprint.
Tower Motorsports has yet to announce a replacement for Bourdais to partner with John Farano in the #8 ORECA 07 – Gibson. The team finished eighth in LMP2 at the recent Rolex 24, with Sebastián Álvarez and IndyCar driver Kyffin Simpson completing the lineup.
As the team navigates this transition, attention now turns to potential candidates for the vacated seat as they prepare for upcoming races.
