Lamborghini Prepares for the Temerario GT3’s Competitive Debut
As Lamborghini gears up for the launch of the Temerario GT3, the Italian manufacturer is poised to replace the highly successful Huracan GT3, which has dominated various racing series since its introduction in 2015, including the Blancpain GT Series and endurance races at Daytona and Sebring.
Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini’s outgoing technical director and interim motorsport head, expressed confidence in the new model’s readiness ahead of its inaugural race at Sebring. The Temerario GT3 is a groundbreaking development for Lamborghini, as it is the first car designed independently without a foundation from a sister model. Mohr noted, “This is the first car developed standalone by Lamborghini… We developed it from a white sheet,” emphasizing the thorough testing and development phase that has accumulated over 15,000 kilometers across various circuits in Europe and the USA.
During testing, the Temerario has shown promising performance and reliability. “The drivers have been happy, and we have had no major issues,” Mohr stated, highlighting the absence of significant technical setbacks during trials. As the vehicle transitions from development to customer support, Lamborghini has strategically involved teams in the testing process, aiming to refine the car before full customer deliveries commence.
Production challenges remain, as Lamborghini must balance GT3 car manufacturing with its road car output and the impending Super Trofeo series. Mohr confirmed that production will start with seven or eight cars, aimed primarily at strategic performance partners, with the expectation of ramping up to 25-30 cars by the end of the season.
The deployment of the Temerario GT3 in North America signifies an important market focus for Lamborghini, with the upcoming IMSA races in Daytona and Sebring presenting immediate challenges. Mohr clarified that the decision to debut at Sebring was intentional, stating, “We didn’t want to debut with a 24-hour race,” allowing for more controlled learning opportunities ahead of these demanding events.
In conclusion, as Lamborghini embarks on this new chapter with the Temerario GT3, the attention turns to how well the car will transition from testing to competitive racing, with aspirations of global representation in key championships, including potential entries in the Intercontinental GT Challenge and the FIA World Endurance Championship in the future.
