Injury Update: Kay de Wolf Out of MXGP Opener
Date: March 2026
Event: FIM Motocross World Championship
In a significant setback for the MXGP series, Kay de Wolf will miss his debut 450 MXGP race this weekend in Argentina due to a thumb injury. The 2024 MX2 Champion sustained the injury during a crash at a recent event in Sommieres, France, where he was forced to withdraw from the race.
Following medical evaluation, de Wolf discovered he had torn a ligament in his thumb, necessitating surgery last Wednesday. While he has been undergoing rehabilitation in Madrid since the procedure, he attempted to return to riding at Lommel but found himself unable to compete effectively.
In an Instagram update, de Wolf expressed his disappointment: “I really wanted to be out there, but the injury hasn’t healed enough for me to race. I’m taking this time to focus on rehabilitation with the goal of returning for the MXGP of Andalucia on March 22.”
As de Wolf focuses on his recovery, the opening round in Argentina will proceed without him, marking a notable absence in the competitive landscape as riders gear up for what promises to be an intense season.
