Ginetta Aims for GT2 European Series Expansion Ahead of 2026
Yorkshire, UK – Ginetta, the Yorkshire-based motorsport manufacturer, is intensifying efforts to increase its participation in the 2026 GT2 European Series, aiming to add more vehicles to the grid ahead of its scheduled debut at Monza in May. Currently, the manufacturer has two Ginetta G56 GT2 cars confirmed for the season, operated by the partner team CMR.
Mike Simpson, Ginetta’s motorsport CEO, expressed optimism about expanding their presence: “We should have four cars ready for the start of the season. We’re really pushing hard… it’s Ginetta at the forefront, pushing to make things happen!” Simpson confirmed that the initial production batch includes four cars, and they are on track to meet this goal.
While interest in the G56 GT2 has been significant, Ginetta faces challenges in securing additional sales. Many potential customers have shown interest in leasing units rather than purchasing them outright, a business approach that Simpson indicated the company cannot pursue. “We’re not in the business of leasing cars… we’ve got a factory to feed and people’s mortgages to pay.”
The partnership with CMR is crucial for Ginetta, as they aim to leverage it for driver development through various Ginetta models. “They’re pushing out GT Academy in French GT,” Simpson noted, suggesting a pathway for drivers to transition from the G56 GT Academy to higher competitive levels, including the European GT4 and GT2 categories.
Looking ahead, Simpson is optimistic that the series will see a robust lineup, especially with the addition of the SRO GT Academy, which offers a full season of GT World Challenge Europe as a prize. “We’ve got two young drivers with CMR, and they really want that Academy prize,” he emphasized.
Ginetta’s commitment to expanding its GT2 presence reflects a broader strategy to enhance engagement within the motorsport community while ensuring a sustainable business model amidst the evolving landscape of competitive racing.
