Ferrari AF Corse and Frecce Tricolori: A High-Flying Collaboration
In a unique crossover of motorsport and aviation, the Ferrari AF Corse Team engaged in an impressive display with the Italian Air Force’s renowned aerobatic team, Frecce Tricolori, at Rivolto air base in Friuli. This event allowed both groups—celebrated for their precision and performance—to showcase their skills in a dramatic aerial demonstration.
Event Highlights
Several members of the Ferrari team, including three-time Le Mans winners Antonio Fuoco, Nicklas Nielsen, Alessandro Pier Guidi, and Antonio Giovinazzi, were given the opportunity to experience the MB-339PAN aircraft in the air. The focus of the session was to coordinate Ferrari’s hypercar, the 499P, with the aerobatic performance for stunning photographic shots.
James Calado piloted the 499P, while Miguel Molina took on the role of mission commander, ensuring the seamless synchronization needed for the complex airborne display.
Driver Insights
Nicklas Nielsen reflected on his experience, stating, “That was very different. I think one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had.” He elaborated on the challenges of high-speed aerobatics, particularly during a maneuver known as the stall fall. “The Gs you pull, the way these guys handle these airplanes… it’s incredible,” he noted. Nielsen also praised the precision of the Frecce Tricolori, emphasizing how close the aircraft flew, “If you sat on the wing, you could touch the other plane—that’s how close they were.”
Conclusion
This collaboration not only showcased the technical prowess of both the Ferrari AF Corse team and the Frecce Tricolori but also highlighted the intricate relationship between motorsport and aviation. As motorsports continue to evolve, such partnerships illustrate the spirit of competition and excellence that both fields strive to achieve.
